Dark Souls 3 ist nun seit einigen Tagen auf dem Markt erhältlich und auch wir haben uns in die düstere Welt von Lothric gewagt.
Die Dark Souls Reihe ist wirklich etwas ganz besonderes beziehungsweise etwas eigen, denn trotz, dass das Spiel eher an Core Gamer gerichtet ist, spricht die Serie ein immer größer werdendes Publikum an. Bestes Beispiel ist der zwar etwas aus der Reihe gerissene Playstation 4 Exklusivtitel Bloodborne, der trotz seines erhöhten Schwierigkeitsgrad ein riesen Erfolg war und die von Sony erwarteten Verkaufszahlen bei weitem Übertreffen konnte.
Genau so verhält es sich auch derzeit auch mit Teil der der Dark Souls Reihe. Wie wir bereits berichteten, konnte das damalige Erstlingswerk Demon’s Souls zu Beginn nicht ganz so viele Spieler von sich überzeugen. Erst im Laufe der Zeit entwickelte sich das Spiel zu einem Geheimtipp. Für den ersten Dark Souls Ableger gab es nach einiger zeit sogar eine Online Petition, die den Entwickler FromSoftware dazu brachte, den bis dahin Konsolen Exklusivtitel auch auf den PC zu portieren.
Wie bereits eingangs verkündet ist jetzt der dritte Teil der Dark Souls Reihe erschienen und begeistert seit dem eine riesige Anzahl an Spieler. Aber kann der dritte Teil, im Gegensatz zum nicht ganz zum etwas schwächeren zweiten Teil, wirklich wieder überzeugen und die Qualität des ersten Dark Souls Titel anknüpfen? Wir haben uns in die Schlacht gestürzt und berichten in einem ersten Zwischenfazit ohne die dunkle Fanboybrille, womit Teil drei punkten kann und was uns in den ersten Stunden nicht so sehr gefallen hat.
Alles wie gehabt
In den ersten paar Minuten präsentiert sich Dark Souls wie eh und je. Nach einem sehr schön gemachten Intro folgt der Charaktereditor der so gefühlt 1:1 aus Bloodborne übernommen wurde. Zumindest kommen einem die Standard Gesichter und Frisuren merkwürdig bekannt vor. Ein bisschen Abwechslung hätte dem Editor bestimmt recht gut getan aber sei es drum.
Das Startgebiet ist wie man es aus der Reihe gewohnt ist eine Art Tutorial, welches einem zwar über die Nachrichten am Boden die Steuerung und Kampfmechanik erklärt aber trotzdem den Spieler fast ins kalte Wasser wirft. Zudem erwartet einen relativ früh der erste kleine Boss. Dieser stellt zwar erfahrene Spieler vor keine wirkliche Herausforderung, kann aber Serienneulingen anfangs wirklich in den Wahnsinn treiben.
In Sachen Grafik setzt FromSoftware wieder auf die hauseigene Engine, welche zuletzt in Bloodborne die Playstation 4 ausreizte und für offene Münder der Konsolenspieler sorgte. Über ein Jahr später sieht die Grafik auch auf dem PC noch ganz gut aus, lockt damit aber keinen Hund mehr hinter dem Ofen hervor. Wer hier also eine Grafikperle erwartet ist fehl am Platz. Nichts desto trotz erschafft das Spiel ein unglaubliche Atmosphäre voller Angst, Nervenkitzel und Verzweiflung und zieht den Spieler dadurch wie selten ein anderes Spiel in seinen Bann.
Dark Souls 3 ist wieder ein Spiel für Entdecker. Zum einen muss man sich wieder einmal die Story aus den vielen Dialogen und Wortfetzen größtenteils selbst zusammen reimen, zum anderen gibt einem Spiel eigentlichen keinen Weg vor. Ein Questlog und die Navigation sucht man vergeblich. Dafür wird der Erkundungstrieb auch hier wieder durch seltene Items belohnt.
Auch das Leveldesign ist wieder verschachtelter und enger mit einander verknüpft als noch in letzten Teil, zumindest die ersten paar Gebiete waren zum Glück nicht mehr so linear und schlauchartig. An den fantastischen Aufbau von Dark Souls kommt es aber leider nicht ran. Das ist wahrscheinlich auch den Leuchtfeuern geschuldet, welche wieder mal die Möglichkeit bieten sich von Leuchtfeuer zu Leuchtfeuer teleportieren zu lassen.
Qualitätsarbeit
Was man FromSoftware wirklich hoch anrechnen muss ist, dass sie trotz des immer größer werdenden Erfolges der Souls Titel das Spiel nicht anpassen oder vereinfachen, um damit ein noch größeres Publikum ansprechen zu können. Das Spiel ist immer noch genau so schwer wie die vergangenen Titel. Und das ist auch gut so, denn auch im dritten Teil gibt wieder diesen einen besonderen Augenblick, wenn man nach gefühlt 1000 Versuchen endlich diesen einen Boss geschafft hat. Wie heißt es noch so schön, kenne deinen Feind. Genau das braucht man auch in Teil drei und bei so manch einem Boss muss man sogar erst einmal schauen, wie man diesem überhaupt Schaden zufügen kann.
Und wo wir schon einmal bei der gegnerischen Fraktion sind, das Monster Design ist wieder mal Erstklassik. Neben einigen wenigen bereits bekannten Gegnertypen, gibt es auch viele neue Monster die von ihren Angriffsanimationen bis hin zur optischen Gestaltung begeistern können.
Und was wäre ein Dark Souls Titel ohne seine Frustmomente, denn von diesen hatte ich bis jetzt schon mehr als mir lieb waren. Bestes Beispiel man kämpft sich durch ein großes Areal, besitzt demnach bereits eine große Anzahl an Seelen, und hofft, dass sich hinter der nächsten Ecke das lang ersehnte Leuchtfeuer befindet. Statt des Leuchtfeuers läuft man zwei stärkeren Gegnern in die Arme und wird von diesen über den virtuellen Jordan befördert. Natürlich ist der Ärger groß aber die Seelen liegen noch an Ort und Stelle und warten nur darauf wieder eingesammelt zu werden. Also macht man sich auf den Weg und aufgrund meiner eigenen Blödheit übernehme ich mich bei einer kleineren Gegnertruppe. Wieder erscheint dieser wohl bekannte Schriftzug auf dem Bildschirm. Diesen nehme ich aber erst gar nicht wahr, da ich zu sehr damit beschäftigt bin mein Gamepad immer und immer wieder auf die Stuhllehne zu donnern. Die Seelen sind futsch und mein Gamepad ziert eine neue Kerbe. Typisch Dark Souls eben.
Es geht weiter
Wie eingangs erwähnt befinde ich mich noch mitten im Spiel und kämpfe mich auch die nächsten Tage weiter durch Wälder, Burgen, Sümpfe und Katakomben und hoffe, dass auch mein Gamepad noch das Ende des Spiels miterleben wird. In diesem Sinne… Praise the sun.
