Einem Datenbankeintrag der Federal Communications Comission zufolge bereitet Sony die Veröffentlichung neuer PlayStation 4-Varianten vor, welche mit kleineren Verbesserungen daherkommen sollen.
Derzeit lässt ein Datenbankeintrag bei der Zulassungsbehörde für Kommunikationsgeräte in den USA auf zwei neue PlayStation 4-Modelle schließen. Die erste Variante trägt die Modellnummer CUH-1215B und soll 20 Watt weniger Strom verbrauchen und rund 300 Gramm leichter sein, zusätzlich soll die Festplattengröße auf 1 TeraByte erhöht werden.
Das zweite gelistete Modell trägt die Modellnummer CUH-1215A und soll ebenfalls weniger Strom verbrauchen und leichter sein, beinhaltet jedoch wie das aktuelle Modell eine 500 GB Festplatte. Für euch Spieler ändert sich demnach nichts. Technische Überarbeitungen von Konsolen sind mittlerweile keine Seltenheit mehr, daher hat Sony nun moderne Hardware und leichtere Teile verbauen können. Dieses Indiz gibt die Änderung der zweiten Zahl der Modellnummer vom momentanen Modell CUH-11XX zu CUH1215A/B. Trotz der Normalität dieses Vorgehens wird dennoch vermutet, dass man nun eine kostengünstigere Verbauung der PS4 mit der Modellnummer CUH-1215A vorzieht, um mehr Profit vom Current-Gen-Profit erwirtschaften zu können. Das ist jedoch reine Spekulation, denn bisher gibt es keine Hinweise auf einen Release-Termin oder auf den Preis der beiden Varianten. Am Wahrscheinlichsten ist eine Ankündigung seitens Sony auf der E3, welche vom 16.6. bis zum 18.6.2015 in Los Angeles stattfindet.
