Freitag Abend wurden zum 31. Mal die Golden Joystick Awards in London vergeben. Die größten Gewinner des jährlichen Videospielpreises waren dieses Jahr Grand Theft Auto V und The Last of Us.
Die Golden Joystick Awards, oder auch bekannt als People’s Gaming Awards, sind die zweit ältesten Gaming-Awards, nach den Arcade Awards, die die besten Videospiele des Jahres auszeichnet. Mittlerweile sind es nicht nur Spiele, sondern nach dem 31. Mal werden zum Beispiel auch Preise an den besten YouTuber vergeben. Am Freitag fand die Zeremonie in London statt und einige bekannte Namen haben abgestaubt.
Das erfolgreichste Studio des Abends war Naughty Dog, welche für das beste Entwicklerstudio des Jahres ausgezeichnet wurde und wessen Meisterwerk The Last of Us auch noch einmal Preise als Bester Newcommer und Bester Storyteller erhalten hat. Als Game of the Year hat es – wer hätte es anders erwartet – Grand Theft Auto V aus dem Hause Rockstar Games geschafft. Aber auch in der Sektion Most Wanted hat es nicht die PS4, oder die Xbox One geschafft, sondern CD Projekt REDs Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Als Innovation des Jahres wurde das Oculus Rift ausgezeichnet und Valves Steam Service als beste Plattform des Jahres.
