Steam hat ein großes Problem: Fake-Accounts, Scammer und Hacker. Auf reddit wurde seit langem schon eine Sperre für solche Accounts diskutiert und Steam kam nun endlich mit einer Lösung um die Ecke, die nicht für jeden optimal ist.
Freunde gegen Geld! So mag die neue Steamregel zwar auf den ersten Moment aussehen, doch nicht Steam selbst hat sich die Idee einfallen lassen, sondern die Community der Gamer. Täglich werden Gamer auf Steam um ihre Accounts oder Items gebracht und die Täter nutzen dafür oft Fake-Accounts ohne Inhalt oder mit nur wenigen Spielstunden von Free2Play-Games.
Damit das nicht mehr passiert, hat Steam nun eingeschränkte User-Accounts eingeführt. Vom Grund auf ist jeder Account zunächst ein solch eingeschränkter Account. Dabei stehen Funktionen wie Freundschaftsanfragen, Greenlight, Reviews oder Tauschen nicht mehr zur Verfügung. Erst wenn Steam von einem 5 US-Dollar oder ein äquivalenten Betrag erhalten hat, in Form von Einkaufen im Store, einer Guthabenkarte oder durch Aufladen des Guthabens, werden alle Funktionen von Steam freigeschalten.
Zwar kam die Idee, dass man zunächst Geld auf Steam aufgeben muss, um ein vollwertigen Account zu erhalten, von der Community, jedoch waren die diskutierten Beträge immer niedriger als die jetzigen 5 Dollar. Im Subreddit r/steam waren zwei Dollar bisher die höchste Forderung.
