EAs Pressesprecher Jeff Brown erklärte heute in einem Interview mit den Kollegen von Kotaku, dass EA in Zukunft keine Spiele mehr für die Nintendo Wii U produzieren wird.
Große Konsolentitel werden folglich exklusiv für Playstation und XBox erscheinen. Derzeit gibt es noch keine offizielle Stellungnahme zu den Gründen für diesen radikalen Umstieg. Dennoch scheint relativ klar, was EA dazu bewegt hat. Man möchte sich beim amerikanischen Spielekonzern wohl komplett auf die Entwicklung von Spielen für Sony und Microsoft widmen, also für Playstation 4 und XBox 720. Ziel scheint zu sein, die Möglichkeiten der NextGen-Konsolen perfekt auszunutzen.
Dafür mussten wohl Abstriche in anderen Entwicklungsbereichen gemacht werden, weshalb die Produtktion für Wii U nun auf Eis gelegt wurde. EA hat mit den vergangenen Wii U-Titeln eher schlechte Erfahrungen in Sachen Verkaufszahlen gemacht. Die Wii U gilt Allgemein als schwächstes Glied der neuen Konsolengeneration, weshalb die neue Nintendo-Konsole auch bei EA den Kürzeren zog.
Große Titel wie Mass Effect 3 und Need for Speed: Most Wanted fanden erst sehr spät den Weg auf die Wii U und Dead Space 3 gibt es gar nicht erst für die Plattform. Ob dies bereits als Vorbote der jetzt durchgesetzten Maßnahmen galt, sei dahingestellt.
